"Welcome to St Lucia - we've missed you!"

20 Oct, 2017 :: Castries, St Lucia

Logos Hope and her crew have been warmly received on arrival in the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

Guests at the official opening of the bookfair in the capital city, Castries, heard that the ship was last in these waters on her maiden voyage in 2009.

The Governor General of the island, Dame Pearlette Louisy, who is celebrating her twentieth year in office, told crewmembers and special guests the vessel had been missed. Her Excellency said, “Not just me, but I’m sure the whole citizenry is eagerly anticipating your opening the doors of the largest floating bookstore in the world.”

Logos Hope’s new captain, Samuel Hils (Germany) explained that he had begun his own journey on board just four weeks previously, along with his wife and baby daughter. He welcomed the people of St Lucia to something more than a ship: “This is our home, and our unique multinational community wants to use our vessel to serve you,” said Captain Sam.

Director Pil-Hun Park (South Korea) expressed the common heartbeat of Logos Hope’s 400 volunteers: “I believe we can make a difference when we choose to forgive,” he said, “We make a difference when we uphold the dignity and value of every person we meet; when we help another person improve their quality of life and when we choose to love,” explained the ship’s leader.

The Governor General commended the spirit of volunteerism exemplified on Logos Hope, which she likened to a floating United Nations. Dame Pearlette Louisy also praised the crewmembers’ recent relief work in other Caribbean islands which have suffered hurricane damage. Mentioning Dominica, which is close to the hearts of St Lucians, Her Excellency said “We can well understand the despair that people feel, so we appreciate this initiative to bring help – and most importantly – hope."

Logos Hope is open to the public in Castries until 29 October and in Vieux Fort between 31 October and 5 November.
